Rajasthan: Mysterious balloon found in border area, probe start

Sriganganagar: A mysterious pink balloon with a phone number and a message printed in Urdu language was recovered by the police from a farm near Suratgarh area of Sriganganagar district on Sunday evening.

Mahaveer Prasad, SI, Suratgarh police station, said that a balloon was found 40 km away from Suratgarh. “Preliminary investigation hints at the possibility of the phone number belonging to somebody in Pakistan. The message in Urdu language beneath the phone number says ‘contact at this number’,” Prasad told media.

The bewildered villagers called up the nearby police station and informed about a mysterious balloon that had landed in their area. The law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot. “Usually, balloons of such size and shape cannot travel beyond 10 to 20 km. But since the balloon was found 70 to 80 km away from the international border, there is a possibility that it might have flown into the area due to winds,” Prasad added.

District police said that they have informed the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and a message has been sent to state intelligence bureau and the Indian Army.
