Rajasthan: Massive blast at chemical factory in Chittorgarh, 4 killed

Chittorgarh: Four unidentified people died and four others were injured in a massive chemical blast at an explosive manufacturing unit at Sripura village near Rawatbhata in Chittorgarh on Thursday. The factory is merely 15km away from Rawatbhata atomic power plant. The intensity of the explosion was so high that the sound was heard up to 10km away. The licensed factory, which employs nearly 200 workers, was destroyed completely and only debris remained after the incident.According to the police, the blast took place at 4.30pm from a suspected chemical, PTN, which was kept for drying. "This chemical is mixed with other chemicals and used in mining.

It appears that the required temperature to get it dry had gone up, resulting in the blast. We are questioning employees and experts to know the exact reasons for the blast," said Chittorgarh SP Prasana Kumar Khamesara.Soon after the incident, pandemonium followed and many employees thanked their destiny for escaping unscathed.

According to the SP, the four have not been identified as all the bodies are badly charred. "We have lodged a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against the owner of the factory as safety measures at the spot were inadequate," he added."We were outside the factory when we heard a blast like sound and the building collapsed," said Nand Lal, an employee at the factory. Police will rope in explosive experts and others to find out what caused the mishap.
