Rajasthan: Dalit woman gangraped in Jaisalmer, three arrested


Jaisalmer: A 28-year-old Dalit woman who was returning with a relative after paying obeisance at Ramdev temple was gangraped by three youths on Tuesday night. The police have arrested the accused. Medical examination of the rape survivor was conducted which confirmed gangrape. Pokhran deputy SP Nanak Singh is investigating the case.

SP Gaurav Yadav said that the woman is a resident of Nimbhera in Chittogarh district and works with her husband in Jodhpur. On Tuesday, she visited Ramdeora with a relative Nitesh Kumar Sindhi. After visiting Ramdev temple, they were going to the railway station to return to Jodhpur when they found that the train had already left. So they were returning on foot to Ramdeora.

Yadav said that a kilometre away from railway station, three youths met them who, taking advantage of the darkness, beat up Nitesh and made him run away. Thereafter, they raped the woman.

Nitesh took lift from a passer-by and reached the police station in Ramdeora. The police team immediately reached the spot but by then, the three youths had fled leaving behind their motorcycle. The police also found a mobile phone of one of the youths through which the culprits were identified.

The police soon arrested Bhawani Singh (19), Hanuman Singh (20) and Ashish Kumar (20), all residents of Ramdeora. The police registered a case under section 376 and SC/ST Act against them.
