Rajasthan: BSF, Army on high alert in border area


Following the Uri attack, tension has gripped the entire western international border, with BSF strengthening its presence in the area. BSF Rajasthan Frontier IG B R Meghwal has given strict orders and asked personnel to be prepared for any situation at the border. Police headquarters has also given directions to its personnel to be on the vigil at border towns.

Meghwal confirmed that BSF has been directed to be on alert and to take any developments at the border seriously. "Extra troops have been deployed at the border. A close watch is being maintained particularly in Sriganganagar, which is on high alert," he said.

The IG further stated that they had noticed heavy movement of Pakistan rangers across the Sriganganagar border. "Around 35-40 Pakistani troops were seen together there. We have directed our troops to be on high alert," he said.

BSF Rajasthan Frontier DIG Ravi Gandhi said all sectors of the Rajasthan Frontier, including Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Sriganganagar along with Barmer sector of the Gujarat Frontier, have been directed to keep strict vigil. "Patrolling is being conducted on camels and foot," he said.

According to sources, alerts have been issued to Air Force stations across Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Phalodi, Suratgarh, Naal, Bikaner and Jodhpur Air Force bases as well as the Chandan field firing range in Jaisalmer.

Additional reserve security personnel have been deployed inside the airport premises and at all army cantonment areas. Jaisalmer SP Gaurav Yadav said that all police stations in the entire the border area were on high alert. "Security arrangements in hotels with foreign tourists are also being reviewed," he said. Barmer SP Gagan Deen Singhala has also confirmed that strict vigil was being maintained across the district, including border villages.
