Raina is about to become a father, miss the first IPL match

New Delhi: Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina is the only player who has played every match of the IPL franchises. Raina in the IPL and Campion league T20 played 143 consecutive matches, including 132 for the Chennai Super Kings and 11 matches for Gujarat Lions. But it seems Raina will finally miss a match after playing a record 143 games on 14th may against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The 29-year-old cricketer is taking a break to be with his wife Priyanka Chaudhary, who is expecting their first child in Holland.

The batsman played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first seven years and was named captain of the newly-formed Gujarat franchise after CSK was banned from the IPL for two seasons on charges of corruption.

Earlier, on the occasion of Mother’s Day, Raina tweeted a picture to wish his mother and his wife Priyanka – who is expecting couple’s first baby this month.
“#happymothersday mom and to future mom can’t wait to see you both,” he tweeted on Sunday.

Raina’s non-availability could mean that either Brendon McCullum or Aaron Finch could lead the Lions in their next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
