Raid at DCW office by Anti Corruption Branch over charges of ‘favouritism’


The investigation was carried out by Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) at the Delhi Commission for Women office on Thursday. It was done after two complaints were lodged against the women’s body over appointments and one against misuse of office.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said: “Modiji did not even leave DCW, which is doing such commendable work. Modiji has done a very bad thing.”

Separate complaints were filed by Former DCW chief, Congress leader Barkha Shukla Singh, former Delhi Chief Secretary Omesh Saigal and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta with the ACB, the police and the Lieutenant-Governor against DCW chief Swati Maliwal.

“The AAP supporters who work in the DCW were appointed without following any procedure. It is a scam,” said Mr Gupta.

Member of DCW said, “Their entire office was locked down while ACB officials searched the premises. They said copies of the files pertaining to the recruitments were taken away. As a Gandhigiri measure, the female staff of the DCW tied rakhis to the ACB officials. “Modiji made ACB officials work on Raksha Bandhan. So we ensured that their ‘sisters’ tied them rakhis ,”

While addressing a press conference, Ms. Maliwal said, “The raid was conducted to deter DCW officials from “aggressively” working towards women’s safety.”

Hammering Ms. Singh, Ms. Maliwal said amid her nine-year residency as the DCW boss, Ms. Singh had discarded stand out case while in the previous one year (after Ms. Maliwal assumed responsibility), more than 400 cases had been taken up. "In nine years, only one case. Is it true that this isn't a trick?"

She said that before 42 individuals were working with DCW however because of expanded work, now around 80 individuals work.

"Among those selected in the DCW are three corrosive assault survivors and ladies from Nari Niketan. We needed to contract more individuals as a ton of cases are pending. On a normal, a case is discarded in a week's opportunity, and for this, the DCW has been dealing with Saturdays too for as far back as five months," the DCW boss said.
