Rahul Gandhi likely to replace Sonia Gandhi as Congress chief in October

New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi may replace his mother Sonia Gandhi from the post of President soon. As per the reports, he will take the position of his mommy after the conclusion of party’s organizational polls in October 2017.

There have been orders from several quarters for electing Gandhi at a position of President due to the climb of BJP and the bad health of Mrs Gandhi. On Tuesday, Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, the agenda for the party’s internal polls was confirmed.

Polls for the post of Congress president will take place between September 15 and October 15 in 2017.

Gandhi, who actually trusts in “inner party democracy”, will set himself for the president’s position.

The CWC has control to select the party chief, a judgment that can be approved by Congress members later on.

While, several Congress leaders were “doubtful” of the changes as Gandhi’s journey in electoral politics went worst.

In November 2016, Rahul Gandhi headed the CWC meet because her mother Mrs Gandhi was facing “health issues.”

The congress party involves Ajay Maken, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Deepender Hooda, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Gaurav Gogoi. The party meeting will be carried out at Mr Gandhi’s home, 12 Tughlaq Lane.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi stated about his plan during the CWC meet that will “enlarge” his party’s power among professionals involving doctors, teachers and chartered accountants. Furthermore, he will form a “professional cell” to emphasize on these areas.

Mr Gandhi said that the Congress has not been able make inroads into these groups though they were among the “opinion makers of our society”.

After the loss of Congress party, the first meeting was held in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Tuesday. He believes that structural and organisational alterations will perk up the party.
