Protesters blocked national highway 31A at some places in Darjeeling district to protest the death of three GJM activists


Protesters today obstructed the national highway 31A at a few places in Darjeeling region to dissent the death of three Gorkha Janmukti Morcha or GJM activists on Saturday.

Protesters blocked the NH 31A at a few places in the region, official sources said today.

The 92 km long NH 31A associates Sevoke in Darjeeling locale to Gangtok and is considered as the help of Sikkim.

Around 30 km of the roadway goes through West Bengal. Sikkim government sources in Gangtok said they had yesterday asked for their West Bengal partner to give security to vehicles going through Darjeeling area in NH 31A in view of the GJM disturbance.

The West Bengal government had guaranteed them that security would be given to vehicles going to Sikkim or originating from Sikkim and police would complete broad watching in the highway, the sources said.
