Three months after a Class XII student was bludgeoned to death by a group of teenagers led by some criminals, the crime branch has finally arrested the prime accused.
According to joint commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav, Laxman, alias Kalam (26), is a member of the notorious Gaurav Jharera gang. A slum-dweller from the Delhi Cantonment area, Laxman had been on the run since the murder of the teen on July 17, cops said.
During interrogation, Laxman revealed that he had joined the Gaurav Jharera gang in order to maintain supremacy over local goons and to make a quick buck. The kingpin, Jharera, is currently lodged in jail in connection with a murder.
DCP (crime) Bhisham Singh said that a head constable from the southwestern range had received a tip-off that the accused would come near Dwarka Sector 10 metro station to meet his aides on October 14. "A team was formed and a trap was laid. The accused was overpowered as soon as he arrived at the spot," Singh added.On July 17, Laxman and his associates had killed Aakash (22) in southwest Delhi's Thimayya Park during a brawl.
Police said that the accused had taken Aakash on a bike to an isolated place on the pretext of playing cricket. However, some of the boys had a fight with him and started beating him.In order to save his life, Aakash started running towards Thimayya Park, but they caught hold of him near a canal and hit him with rods. They also pelted him with stones.
Some traffic police personnel, who were present near the spot, nabbed three juveniles, along with a criminal, Gaurav Dancer. However, Laxman and others managed to flee.
