New Delhi: Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has made public the monthly remuneration of all its officers and staff as part of proactive disclosure under the Right to Information Act. The highest paid official, with a salary of around Rs. 2 lakh, is the Secretary to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhaskar Khulbe.
Khulbe, who was till recently an Additional Secretary was appointed as Secretary to PM last week. Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Nripendra Misra, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Additional Principal Secretary P K Mishra get paid the same amount Rs. 1,62,500 a month plus pension since all three of these officials are retired civil servants.
The Information Officer of Press Information Bureau posted to the PMO, Sharat Chander takes home Rs 1.26 lakh a month while the Public Relations Officer at PMO, J M Thakkar is paid Rs 99,434 per month plus pension.
Among the Joint Secretaries, Tarun Bajaj is the highest paid with a salary of Rs. 1,77,750, while Joint Secretary Anurag Jain is paid Rs 1,76,250 and A K Sharma takes home Rs 1,73,250, as per the PMO disclosure.
The lowest salary, around 17,000, is listed against a member of what is classified as “multitasking staff”. The information was posted on the website of the PM’s Office on June 1.
The salaries of the Prime Minister’s Office were made public in 2012 when the Manmohan Singh government was in power. “Proactive disclosures” implies that the government volunteers any information that is most sought after by citizens.
