NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted his Manmohan Singh on his 83rd birthday, wishing him a long and healthy life. The Prime Minister additionally addressed Dr Singh and extended the birthday wishes to him.

“PM @narendramodi spoke to Dr. Manmohan Singh ji and extended birthday greetings to him,” the PM’s Office said in a tweet.Dr Singh, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, was born in Gah (British India – now in Pakistan). Dr Singh’s family migrated to India during partition in 1947.
After obtaining his doctorate in economics from Oxford, Dr Singh worked for the United Nations during 1966-69.He along these lines started his bureaucratic career when previous union pastor Lalit Narayan Mishra procured him as a counselor in the Ministry of Foreign Trade.
Over the 70s and 80s, Dr Singh held a several key posts in the Government of India, for example, Chief Economic Advisor (1972-76), Reserve Bank representative (1982-85) and Planning Commission head (1985-87).
