Ph.D scholar raped by JNU student, case filed


Delhi: The charges has been put against a Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, an activist of the All India Students’ Association for allegedly drugging and raping a 28-year-old research scholar at university hostel room on Saturday.

The FIR has been filed against the accused on Sunday. The victim is in the first year of her Ph.D, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-I (South) Nupur Prasad said. The name of the accused has been identified as Anmol Ratan.

“The accused had taken the victim to his room on the pretext of giving her a movie CD; there he gave her a spiked drink and assaulted her”. Ms. Parsad said.  Ms. Prasad added that following the assault the accused had refused to let the victim leave, threatening her with consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

“On the basis of statement of complainant, a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigation is in progress,” said Ms. Prasad.
