Paris: Bollywood Actress Mallika Sherawat ‘attacked with tear gas and beaten’


Masked attackers in an upmarket area of Paris attacked Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat by punching her in the face and spraying teargas, according to the police statement given on Thursday.

Mallika Sherawat the 40-year-old Indian celebrity and her French friend Cyrille Auxenfans, 45, were attacked by three masked men who tried to steal her handbag. Ms. Sherawat and her friend were left to call emergency services while all the three men fled after the incident from the spot.

The police was told by the couple that they had been attacked by the men in the lobby of an apartment building where they were staying in the chic 16th arrondissement of the French capital on Friday.

The incident is second of its kind which comes just weeks after Kim Kardashian the U.S. reality TV star was robbed in Paris. She was attacked in Paris in a robbery in which a masked gang stole jewellery worth more than $10 million at gunpoint. However, it has been clearified that although the attackers had tried to take Ms. Sherawat’s handbag, but they had fled empty-handed, said the investigators. “We cannot understand why the attackers fled without taking anything,” a source said.

With an assumption of the incident being an attempted robbery a criminal investigation has been launched, with detectives working over the investigation of the incident, media reports said. However, Ms. Sherawat hasn’t responded to the media reports.

Ms. Sherawat, whose actual name is Reema Lambha, came to fame in 2004 on account of a film that bust taboos around sex in the Indian film industry. She is well known for her outstanding performance in the film Murder furthermore she has also starred in Jackie Chan’s The Myth in 2005.
