Panchkula: The Haryana government on Saturday replaced IPS officer Ashok Kumar who was deferred after large-scale clashes in Panchkula following the arrest of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a sexual assault case.
IPS officer Ashok Kumar has been chosen as commandant, 1st Battalion, Haryana Armed Police, Ambala City, alleviating Abhishek Jorwal from the additional charge of the post, an official spokesperson affirmed.
“The reinstatement of Mr. Kumar is subject to the final outcome of departmental proceedings pending against him,” he asserted.
The Haryana government suspended Ashok Kumar on August 26, the then deputy commissioner of police in Panchkula. Nearly 35 people lost their lives in Panchkula in clashes following the arrest of Dera Chief Ram Rahim Singh.
The cops and administration were accused for worsening to receive prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC successfully executed in Panchkula.
Dera Sacha Sauda supporters had gone on run riot on August 25 after the arrest of Ram Rahim Singh by a CBI court in Panchkula in a sexual assault case.
