Pakistani journalist arrested for criticising state institutions


For apparently composing against “national security foundations” on social media, A Pakistani journalist was captured in the city of Quetta prior this week

He was arrested under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, Zafarullah Achakzai, who works for Qudrat, a Quetta-based daily, presented in a court of the judicial magistrate, as per Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) authorities.

The court remanded Achakzai in care of the FIA for six days.

Niamat­ullah Achakzai father of arrested journalist said that   “Our whole neighborhood was attacked by the security agency before capturing him.”

Niamatullah is the editor-in-chief of daily Qudrat.

The FIA informed him on Thursday that Zafarullah Achakzai had been arrested under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

The journalist’s relatives told a joint meeting of the Balochistan Union of Journalists and different associations that “personnel of a security agency”  arrested Zafarullah Achakzai in the early hours of Sunday morning subsequent to cordoning off his living arrangement.

They said if there was any dissension against the journalist, the authorities  ought to have raised the issue at a “proper forum”.
