Pakistani Court Indicted Six For Attacking Sri Lankan Cricket Team


LAHORE : A Pakistani anti-terrorism court on Wednesday indicted six men accused of carrying out a deadly attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in March 2009. The ATC judge summoned prosecution witnesses by June 30 after framing charges against six individuals. During an in-camera proceeding held at Lahore Central Jail the suspects namely Adnan Arshad, Ibrahim Khalil, Obaidullah, Javed Anwar, Abdul Wahab, and Zubair pleaded not guilty. 

During the proceedings at Kot Lakhpat Jail, the accused pleaded not guilty. The judge summoned prosecution witnesses on June 30 while adjourning the hearing. The court had already declared Mohsin Rasheed and Abdul Rahman as absconders. The accused had attacked the Sri Lankan team which was touring the country in 2009. On March 3, 2009, a bus carrying the Sri Lankan was attacked with AK-47 rifles and grenades at Liberty Chowk near Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Seven players and an assistant coach were wounded while eight Pakistanis killed in the attack.
