P V Sindhu reach quarterfinals of China Open


China: Olympic silver-medallist P V Sindhu has advanced to the quarterfinals after registering thrilling three-game wins over their respective opponents in the second round of the USD 700,000 China Super Series Premier, here today. 

PV Sindhu got the better of China’s Bingjiao 22-20, 21-10 in 30 minutes. She plays the winner of Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Ji Hyun Sung of Chinese Taipei.

It was match of two halves. Sindhu had to work very hard to win the opening game with the Chinese shuttler mounting a comeback every time she fell behind. But Sindhu cruised to bag the second game comfortably. Once she bagged the lead, she never looked back and took the second game in 18 minutes.

Meanwhile, it was curtains for Ajay Jayaram. Jayaram lost his quarter-final tie 15-21, 14-21 to second seed and the reigning Olympic champion Chen Long of China in 40 minutes.
