The official notification for full time and part time PHD programmes have been released by National Institute of Technology (NIT), Puducherry on the official website. Students can last apply by September 15.
The students who are applying for both the exam have to appear for a common written test.
The PhD programme is offered under the following departments:
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
PhD in engineering: Aspirants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in engineering by a well-known college with minimum 60 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.5/10 for OC/OBC category and 55 per cent aggregate marks.
PhD in science and humanities: The Students must possess Master’s degree in Science/Humanities with a minimum of 60 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.5/10 for OC/OBC category and 55 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0/10 for SC/ ST/ PH category.
The students will be selected on the basis of GATE/NET/JRF/SRF score. Once the students will qualify the written test, they will be called for an entrance test and/or interview.

They are then required to send the completed application form along with other relevant enclosures to 'The Director, National Institute of Technology, Puducherry', payable at Karaikal, should reach 'The Registrar (i/c), National Institute of Technology Puducherry, Thiruvettakudy, Karaikal-609609.'
