Noted Journalist of Odisha Barendra Krushna Dhal passed away on August 9, 2016 at the age of 77 in his residence in his Bhubaneswar residence. He breathed his last at his Bhubaneswar residence following a prolonged illness. His wife Snehalata Dhal had died earlier this year on 6th January 2016.
The last rites of Dhal would be performed at Swarga Dwara in Puri tomorrow, family sources informed. Several journalists, politicians and eminent personalities reached his residence to offer their last tributes to the departed soul.
Born on 25 March, 1941 in Cuttack district, Dhal started the Bhubaneswar Bookfair in 1984. A recipient of Sahitya Akademi award in 1993, Dhal had around 40 years of career as a journalist.
He also led the Lekhaka Samukhya, a literary movement in the remote areas of Odisha. He was the chairman of National Union of Journalist during 1990-93 and was associated with newspapers like Sambad, Swaraj, Aj Kal and Prajatantra.
