We do not support any kind of vigilantism: Centre to Supreme Court

The government does not support any sort of vigilantism, the Supreme Court was told today as a petition against mob violence in the name of cow protection was heard.

The centre additionally stated: “No vigilante group has any place in the nation under law.”

The court had before issued notice to six states, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The Supreme Court asked the centre to file a reply on the petition and said both the Center and states should help the court in removing violent content from social media by cow vigilante groups.

The Gujarat government told the top court that it doesn’t support cow vigilante groups, referring to the flogging of Dalit youth in Una town a year ago.
