Nine persons dead after boat overturned in Punpun river of Aurangabad


Nearly 9 persons died after a boat overtuned in Punpun river in Aurangabad district of Bihar. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

The reports revealed that some of the people were coming back to home on the boat after purchasing basic items of necessity from nearby Khundwa market.

On the boat, there were around 18 persons who belongs to Kalen village under Obra assembly constituency. There were few school children also on the boat who were returning home after school.

Heavy rain and flood situation have arised from sometime in some districts of Bihar. The water level has rised in the rivers of Ganga, Sone and Punpun which has created chaos in at least 12 district of Bihar.

The rescue team has begun the operation while SDRF team had saved around 9 people. They had even dig out the body of a woman from the river. Currently, 8 persons are missing.

The persons who were rescued said that the boat in which they were returning was about to crash against a thorny tree. In order to save themselves, people on the boat came on one side of the boat leading it to overturn.

"Rescue operation is going on. We have managed to save 9 persons and searches are going on to find remaining persons who are missing", said Kanwal Tanuj, DM Aurangabad.

On Tuesday, Search operation was suspended after sunset which was later resumed on Wednesday morning.

Till now, Atleast 20 people have been died in Bihar floods and the river are flowing above danger level. More than 22 lakh people have been displaced in these floods.
