KOCHI: In context of Kanakamala IS case, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) lodged the chargesheet against eight persons on Wednesday as they were linked with their operations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
In 2016, the investigation agency had seized the group that had collected at Kanakamala for a secret meeting.
The reports revealed that the chargesheet was lodged against Manseed alias Omar Al Hindi from Kozhikode, Swalih Mohammad T alias Yosuf alias Bilal from Thrissur, Abu Basheer alias Rashid from Coimbatore, Ramshad Nangeelan alias Aamu from Kuttiady, Tirur native Safwan, Jasim NK from Kuttiady, Sajeer Mangalassery from Kozhikode and Subahani Haja Moideen from Tirunelveli.
The NIA agency was enforced to lodge a chargesheet straight away to avert the culprit from getting bail. The culprit has been freed on a bail according to the rules. Bail can be issued, if the agency botched to lodge a chargesheet within 180 days of judicial custody. Then, the deadline regarding this case is March 31.
At Least seven culprits were exempted by NIA on the chargesheet including Mouinudheen who was detained from UAE in February. Another accused, Mohammed Fiaz was also booked in this case.
In the chargesheet, case against Subahani Haja Moideen was lodged separately taking into consideration that he fought for IS in Iraq. Later, he was detained in an IS prison in Raqqa, Syria.
The NIA agency had taken a tip from intelligence agencies to organize the operation. As per NIA sources, they planned for the attack at various locations including mosques, temples and churches in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Currently, chargesheeted persons are in judicial custody apart from Shajeer Mangalassery who is on the run.
