NIA arrests Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s son-in-law for terror funding


NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Altaf Ahmed Shah, son-in-law and separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday in link with its investigation into the financial support of terror and rebellious actions in Kashmir.

Apart from him, two other Hurriyat(G) leaders including Ayaz Akbar and Mehraj Ud Din Kalwal were also arrested by the NIA team.

On June 12, Shah recognized as Altaf Fantoosh, was interrogated by the NIA about his variable and other properties involving houses in the Valley and in Jammu, and the basis for their financial support, official sources stated.

He was interrogated by a team of NIA officials about the endowment of the Geelani-led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, sources asserted.

Apart from being the son-in-law of Geelani, Shah is supposed to be powerful in the plans of the Tehrek-e-Hurriyat.

For now, Geelani had stated that the NIA agency had “crossed all limits”. He stated there was no legal explanation for such “arbitrary steps”.
