Telangana: Nearly 14 people died as Yatra Genie bus falls into canal. The bus was going from Hyderabad to Kakinada fell into Nagarjuna Sagar Project canal in Nayakangudem in Khammam on Sunday.
During the incident, around 12 people have suffered minor injuries. At the time of incident, there were about 26 passengers in the bus which started from Miyapur in Hyderabad at 10 pm Sunday.
Some passengers were rescued by the Fire and Emergency Services officials. “The water level was just knee deep the 12 passengers could escape”, officials added.
The reports revealed that the bus tumbled down 30 feet into the Left Bank Canal of the NSP. When the incident occurred, almost all those who died in the luxury sleeper coach were fast asleep in the upper bunks and as the bus jumped the bridge fence and overturned, the passengers sleeping in the upper bunks not only took the full impact of the fall but also drowned.
The victims told the police about the incident. They even told about the negligence of the driver.
“The driver was running the vehicle at a high speed and applied sudden brake on reaching the bridge. The bus overturned and fell into the canal,” Survivors said.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao told the officials to give best possible treatment to the victims.
