Nearly 10 fishermen detained by Sri Lankan Navy


At Least Ten Indian fishermen were detained on Tuesday by the Sri Lankan Navy when they were allegedly fishing near Katchatheevu.

The reports revealed that they were detained for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line on Tuesday.

Later, the fishermen were shifted to Kankesanthurai along with their boat.

A 22-year-old Bridgo was gunned down by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel when he was fishing near Katchatheevu island. Other fishermen Saravanan got wounded in the incident.

The fishermen had dissented the murdering and had declined to get the body of the adolescent till a Union Minister went to the island and gave them a confirmation that such occurrences would not repeat.

They had pulled back their challenge seven days after the fact after converses with Union clergymen Nirmala Sitharaman and Pon Radhakrishnan, who guaranteed them that their requests would be met.

Boss Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had additionally kept in touch with the Center and asked it to summon Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India forthwith and pass on to him “the solid sentiments of the Government of India and Tamil Nadu about the “unwarranted” terminating on anglers and non-adherence to prior concurrences on this issue”.
