National highway of Jammu-Srinagar closed for traffic due to landslides



On Friday 300-km long national highway of Jammu-Srinagar was shut for vehicular traffic because of barricade activated by landslides in the Ramban and Udhampur locale of Jammu and Kashmir.

Heavy rains triggered landslides on the highway at Nashri, Bali Nallah and Panthiyal ranges in the day because of which couple of hundred were stranded.

“Because of heavy rains, there were 2-3 landslides on the highway extend amongst Ramban and the Panthiyal region,” a traffic police official said.

Another significant landslide occurred on highway at Bali Nallah in Udhampur region, he stated, including there was a minor landslide close Nashri tunnel in Ramban region.

More than 150 vehicles were stranded at different spots due to this blockade enroute the highway.

The men and machines of BRO are attempting to clear the highway to make it trafficable, he said.

The traffic police official, in any case, said the storm was making the situation troublesome.

Heavy rains, which have lashed a few regions in the Jammu district, likewise caused water-logging and surge like circumstance in different regions in Jammu.
