Mumbai: Two-time national award-winning Tamil film lyricist Na Muthukumar passed away in Chennai on Sunday morning after a bout of jaundice. He was 41. Muthukumar had been suffering from jaundice and high fever for the past few days.
Known in the film industry as 'Kavi Ilavarasan', Muthukumar had won the national award for his lyrics for the songs "Aanandha Yazhai Meetugiraai" in in the film "Thanga Meenkal" and "Azhage Azhage Ethuvum Azhage" in "Saivam."
Besides publishing collections of his poems, Muthukumar had penned a novel "Silk City" and written dialogues for films including "Kireedam."
Muthukumar had written more than 1,500 lyrics for Tamil films. Some of the films for which he had written lyrics include "Kaadhal Kondein," "Ghilli," "Chandramukhi," "Vaaranam Aayiram" and "Theri." Muthukumar was born in Kancheepuram. His father was a Tamil teacher.
