New Delhi : Indian shooter Gagan Narang finished seventh in the finals of the 50m rifle prone event at the shooting World Cup in Baku on Sunday. Narang scored a total of 103.1 in the first and second competition stages of the final round before getting eliminated. The Hyderabad-based Narang has already secured qualification for the Olympics in the 10m air rifle, 50m rifle prone and 50m rifle three positions events. He had earlier finished sixth in the 10m air rifle event.
In the qualification round, Narang shot 621.1 to finish seventh and make the cut for the finals. Sanjeev Rajput, the other Indian in the fray, shot 617.6 to finish 14th. Rajput had won a quota in the 50m rifle 3 positions category but the NRAI decided to exchange a spot in the 50 m rifle 3 positions with the men's trap. In the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event, Gurpreet Singh failed to qualify for the finals. Singh shot a total of 569 to finish in 26th place. The Indians will take part in the women's skeet and and 50m rifle three positions event on Monday.
