Myanmar military plane pieces found in Andaman sea; 122 people killed


YANGON:  Myanmar military plane which gone astray a few days back with over 100 soldiers and family members on board have been found on Thursday in the Andaman Sea.

The operation was started by the Navy ships and aircraft on Thursday afternoon.

As per the reports, several children lost their lives as the plane got crashed. The plane was going from southern city of Myeik to Yangon.

“Now they have found pieces of the damaged plane in the sea 136 miles (218 km) away from Dawei city,” Naing Lin Zaw, a tourism official in Myeik affirmed.

Some of the pieces of plane have been recovered in the Arabian Sea.

As per the commander in chief’s office, the plane forfeits contact at about 1:35 pm (local time) off Myanmar’s southern coast.

The officials revealed that there were about 106 passengers on board including soldiers, crew members and family members during the plane crash.

The air force source stated, the plane had several children on board.

The investigation was carried out by four naval ships and two air force planes. Y-8F-200 four-engine turboprop plane was a Chinese-made model used by Myanmar’s military for transferring cargo.

The plane was created in the month of March 2016 and had the capacity of flying for 809 hours.

“Myanmar air force has very bad safety performance,” A former executive at the aviation ministry stated.

In February 2016, about five crew members lost live when fire occurred in an air force plane after taking off from Naypyidaw.

Nearly three army officers died in the month of June when Mi-2 helicopter smashed into the hillside and burst into blaze in south-central Bago.
