There's good news for students in Mumbai! The city is likely to get 28 new colleges this year. An official at the Department of Higher and Technical Education informed that 28 colleges have been shortlisted and the proposal has been forwarded to the state government and the final response is awaited.
According to a report by a National Daily, it is almost after two years that the state may get 28 new institutions this year. But some officials of MU fear, that the beginning of a term this year would be difficult. One official said, "Admissions are now over. Classes for the new term began in full-swing on July 4, which was already late. The new colleges will have no time to admit students and catch up with the course." But according to the government officials, the reason behind this delay is that it is because the universities sent their proposals late.
''We are currently verifying the documents and proposals of the shortlisted colleges, and will come to a decision by July 31.'' said a government official.
