Mumbai: Daycare employer arrested for beating 10-month-old

 A 30-year-old employee of a daycare centre in Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai was detained on Thursday for allegedly beating 10-month-old baby girl at the creche.

The name of the accused has been found as Afsana Shaikh. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera where the daycare centre staffer was seen beating the 10 month old child.

An FIR have been filed against Afsana and her employer Priyanka Nikam (34) under the charges of voluntarily causing hurt, common intention and sections of the Juvenile Justice Act.

One of the senior police inspector said, “The FIR was registered by baby’s mother against the daycare centre owner for beating 10-month-old Ritisha. When her mother picked up her daughter from the centre she found some swelling around Ritisha’s eye.

The police officials affirmed that a medical test of the child must be conducted to know about the injury. The FIR has been registered against Afsana and Nika at the Khargar police station.

“We arrested the two women in the morning. They were produced before the local court, which sent them to jail custody,” Kale said.

“There were shocking images of the kid being beaten up and thrown around by Afsana. During her interrogation earlier, she had maintained that she had not beaten up the kid. By the time we got the CCTV footage, we no longer had her custody,” Kale added.
