Auto: The German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz is planning to launch four new electric cars in its portfolio by 2020. This push comes after German government announced plans of for providing sales subsidies on all EVs priced at less than Rs 45.86 lakh.
According to the report, the line-up will include two electric saloons and two electric SUVs, with each car said to come with its own unique design features. The four cars will have electric-specific exterior body changes to distinguish them from the gasoline models.
The German automaker is looking into developing two sedans and two SUVs that will comprise the first wave of EV models to bear the Silver Arrows badge. The sedans are expected to be based on the C-Class and S-Class, whereas the SUVs are expected to be based on the GLA and GLC, which will be launched in the Indian market on June 2.
This announcement was made by Mercedes-Benz’s R&D head, Thomas Weber. The cars are expected to be manufactured at Mercedes-Benz’s Bremen, Rastatt and Sindelfingen plants in Germany.
