There was riotous campaigning on Tuesday inside the Congress and the JD (S) over choice of contender for the mayoral races booked on Wednesday. On Monday, G. Padmavathi (56), a four-time councilor from Prakash Nagar ward was just about settled as the gathering's hopeful in spite of Minister K.J. George and MLA N.A. Harris backing P. Sowmya Shivakumar (36), a two-time councilor from Shanti Nagar ward.
The scales tilted on Tuesday after JD (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda is accepted to have vetoed the candidature of G. Padmavathi, as she is a nearby supporter of Energy Minister and Vokkaliga strongman D.K. Shivakumar. Sowmya Shivakumar is accepted to have looked for backing from Mr. Gowda. Notwithstanding, sources said that the Congress is inflexible on handling Ms. Padmavathi.
The formal declaration will be made on Wednesday. Then, JD(S) is accepted to have concluded M. Anand (53), councilor from Radhakrishna Temple Ward and floor pioneer of the gathering in the board, as its possibility for the post of appointee chairman.
In the interim, active Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy on Tuesday asserted to be content with his residency in the wake of having "settled the trash emergency" in the city. He recorded streamlining of BBMP records and recovery of hypothecated BBMP properties as his different accomplishments. He lamented the inability to augment streets and table a review report.
