Mumbai: Massive rain hit Mumbai and nearby areas on Tuesday morning due to which the officegoers faced lot of difficulties in Thane.
High alert has been issued by Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on July 20 and directed natives to go home only when required.
On Monday evening, Thane recorded 40mm rainfall while on Tuesday it received 110mm rainfall at 6.30am.
Santosh Kadam, regional disaster management officer of TMC stated, “Thane received 112mm rainfall till 8.30am. The total rainfall this year has reached 1456mm, compared to 1481.50 mm last year. We received several complaints of tree falls . A nullah wall and compound wall also collapsed owing to heavy rain, but there were no injuries or casualties.”
Due to heavy rainfall, the traffic got badly affected.
AR Sandhan, a native of Hiranandani Estate in Thane asserted , “My regular bus from Patlipada came half an hour late. Auto drivers too were not willing to ply. I had to wait for over 30 minutes and got drenched in heavy downpour.”
The whole Eastern Express Highway was stuck from Majiwada uptill Anadnagar toll plaza.
The natives of Mumbai expressed their sadness on Twitter .
The civic authority has directed the localities to communicate with authorities on helpline number 1800 222 108 in case they require help.
“The water level has increased since last night. If it continues to rain, the traffic will come to halt,” Amit Sanap, Tehsildar , Kalyan stated.
