Kazakhstan: Star Indian woman boxer MC Mary Kom brilliantly defeated Juliana Soderstrom of Sweden in the opening match on Thursday in the ongoing World Boxing Championships. Five-time champion MC Mary Kom defeated Juliana Soderstrom 3-0 in a one-sided contest.
Mary is now two more victories away to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic starting in August.
The Boxing World Championships is the final Olympics qualifier for the women boxers with 12 spots up for grabs in a total of three categories. Sarita Devi and Pooja Rani, apart from Mary Kom, are hoping to qualify for the Rio Olympics 2016.
Mary will next meet Germany’s Azize Nimani on Saturday, who took out Asian Games bronze-medallist Nandintsetseg Myagmardulam of Mongolia in her opener.
