New Delhi: Creta has been a runaway success for Hyundai in the Indian market since its 2015 launch. The competition in the compact SUV segment though has since heated up and MarutiSuzuki Vitara Brezza has been one of the foremost challengers to the Korean auto giant.
The challenger turned out to be a winner for the second consecutive month – in August, with sales outpacing those of Creta.
Launched earlier this year, the Brezza – offered only in diesel currently – has been doing brisk business courtesy attractive pricing and styling. That Maruti Suzuki also has an integral connect with most Indian car buyers has further helped the cause of Brezza.
Little wonder then that 9,554 units of the car were sold in August as against 8,450 units of Creta. The car had outsold Creta in July as well.
Vitara Brezza’s lead over other vehicles in utility segments is even more daunting.
This is highlighted by the fact that Toyota Innova Crysta found 8,229 buyers and Ford sold 5,248 units of the EcoSport last month.
Maruti’s production lines are strained ever since the country’s largest automaker has introduced its premium hatchback – the Baleno and the sub-4 metre SUV – the Vitara Brezza.
Both the cars have received an overwhelming response in the market and the automaker is trying to clear the pending orders.
Maruti Suzuki has two mega factories in the country based out of Manesar and Gurugram (formally known as Gurgaon) and now it is coming up with yet another in Gujarat to tackle the growing number of orders.
