Manipur Blast kills one

A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off at Chingamathak area in Imphal West district, few metres away from an Assam Rifles camp, in Manipur leading to the death of one person on Sunday morning, the police officials said.

The IED is suspected to have been planted by unknown militants and the blast occurred at 8:10 am, according to the statement given by a senior police officer.

The deceased was identified as a non-Manipuri, who was en route to his iron and cement store when he fell victim to the explosion nearby, the officer further said.

An Assam Rifles camp is just few metres away from the site of the blast, the officer said, adding that the personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
