Mahmood Farooqui sentenced to 7 years in jail on rape charges


The co-Director of movie “Peepli Live” Mahmood Farooqui has been sentenced to 7 years in jail by Delhi police as he had raped a 30-year-old US researcher last year.

The maximum punishment has been given to Farooqui on Tuesday as they said the crime brought 'disrepute' to the country. The charges of rape were put against Farooqui on September 30th. After that, the accused was taken into custody by the Delhi Police. 

Woman said, “Farooqui was drunk when he raped her at his house where she had gone to get his help for her research work last year.” An FIR was lodged against him on June 19, 2015 by woman after which he was arrested.

On July 29, last year, a chargesheet was filed against Farooqui by Delhi police. The chargesheet alleged that he had raped the research scholar from Colombia University at his Sukhdev Vihar house in south Delhi on March 28 last year.
