Madras High court : Sale of tobacco near school needs action


Chennai : The Madras High Court today directed the Greater Chennai Corporation and Chennai city Police Commissioner to take action against those selling tobacco products near educational institutions and submit a report. The DGP and the City Police Commissioner to form special squads forthwith to conduct surprise raids on shops located within 100 yards from educational institutions, seize tobacco products and curb smoking in public places. 

Justice N.Kirubakaran also directed that the special squads to book those persons who smoke in public places. The judge gave the directives on a petition from M/s Studio 11 represented by T.C. Sharath, which sought action agai-nst smokers in public places and shopkeepers who sell tobacco products to students.
