A 21-year old girl pursuing Masters in Fashion designing at a leading college in Jaipur was brutally murdered by a 22-year-boy pursuing MBA late on Wednesday evening in Vidhyadhar locality. With the activeness of the family members, people living in the neighbourhood, and police the accused was arrested by the police 6 hours after the murder on Thursday morning.
Police said that it was a clear case in which the jilted lover was envy of the fact that the girl had started seeing other boy. According to the police, the girl identified as Harshita Gupta pursuing master's in Fashion Designing from a reputed college in Mansarover and residing in Khandelwal Towers in Vidhadhar Nagar left her home at 6.30 pm on Wednesday evening.
"She told her mother that she was going to get the print outs of some of her work relating to studies from a nearby cyber cafe. Till 9 pm when she did not arrive. Her mother expecting the worst informed the father of the girl who is a broker dealing with Sugar.
The family members informed the police about the incident at 9.30 pm," said Rajesh Meel, additional deputy commissioner of police (North). Meel further claimed that after a missing report was lodged at Vidhyadhar Nagar police station teams were constituted and sent to various public places in Vidhyadhar Nagar and nearby areas in plain clothes to search for the girl. "The first thing that came to our notice was that the girl was in an affair with the suspect identified as Jayant Sodhani(22) who too was living in the same apartment and both had break up in June, 2016.
Second information came to us was that some people had seen the girl and Jayant at a crowded place in Vidhyadhar Nagar at 7.30 pm," he added. Police started having a closed surveillance on the activities of the boy. "Initially he was brought to the police station at 11.30 pm. Till then the girl's status was nothing more than missing," he said.
During early hours between 3.30 am to 4.30 am on Thursday, police managed to recover the blood stained car of the accused and the scooty of the deceased girl, he added. This time police had shown negligence as the accused Jayant told the police that his mother was calling him and they allowed him to return to home. "We allowed him to go but our men were after him. He was under our surveillance since initially he was seen as suspect in the case," Meel added.
In the morning on Thursday when it was confirmed that the girl was murdered after some people spotted a blood-stained body identified as that of Harshita Gupta police arrested the accused. "In the morning some passers' by informed us about spotting a body at an isolated place in Vidhyadhar Nagar which was identified by the parents of the missing girl. Thus, it was clear and we first apprehended the accused and arrested him on the charges of murder on Wednesday morning," Meel added.
In the primary interrogation the accused confessed his crime and police have recovered a knife and seized the blood stained car of the accused. "It is a murder in a fit of rage in which the accused put the girl on the back seat of the car and brutally stabbed her. The girl has sustained at least 15 injuries on her neck, abdomen and face. It is also evident that the girl had shown much resistance and struggled as scratch marks were witnessed on the face, left and right arms of the boy," said a senior police officer of Vidhyadhar Nagar police station. The accused is pursuing MBA and was acquainted to the girl in a manner that both were visiting each other's home till June, 2016.
