Gandhinagar : On Friday, The Gujarat Assembly cleared a tough amendment to the law against cow slaughter in the state, increasing the punishment for such slaughter to life imprisonment.

The older law, changed in 2011, stipulated that dairy animals butcher would prompt a most extreme correctional facility sentence of seven years.

The altered law likewise builds punishment for the offense from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, said media reports.

The Gujarat Animal Preservation Act of 1954 likewise says the discipline for transporting of bovines will be 10 years in prison.

This is the toughest law against cow slaughter in the country, media reported.
