LeT operative Tunda attacked in Haryana’s Karnal jail


CHANDIGARH:  Lashkar-E-Taiba operative Tunda was attacked in Karnal Jail on Wednesday three days after the jailbreak at the high-security Nabha jail of Patiala in Punjab.

The matter came to limelight after Tunda had a quarrel with Amandeep Singh of Punjab, and Joginder Singh, a resident of Nagoora village in Jind district over some major issue.

One of the source said, the two first thrashed Tunda, following which they tried to strangle him.

When Jail staff came to know about the incident, they reached to the spot and rescued Tunda. Earlier, he was taken to Karnal's trauma centre, where he was put under custody after initial treatment.

"He was discharged after a couple of hours. He has been kept in tight security now, and a case has been registered," said Haryana's DGP Krishan Pal Singh.

On February 1, 1997 he was charged for committing bomb blast at Panipat Bus stand which killed 20 people. Later, Tunda was arrested in Tihar jail. He was also invloved in blasts in Rohtak and Sonipat.

In 2013, Tunda was detained by Delhi Police from Indo-Nepal border.

"Investigations are in progress, and we will formally arrest the accused involved in the attack," said the police.

"Medical reports did not suggest any serious injury, other than the strangulation mark," a cop said
