Shimla: At least 7 people killed and around 20 missing following an immense landslide buried two roadways buses they were on their way to Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. Late on Friday the mishap occurred close to Mandi-Pathankot highway.
The security forces down with the local officials and the National Disaster Response Force are executing search and rescue operation. The police officials conveyed that around five people have been evacuated and taken to a hospital in Mandi. The driver and the conductor bodies of Chamba depot Chanden Sharma and Satpal, correspondingly have been found.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed his concern. “Pained by the loss of lives due to landslide related mishaps in HP’s Mandi district. My condolences with the families of the departed,” PM Modi tweeted.

The landslide occurred at Kotrupi, 220 kilometres from Shimla. Police conveyed that two roadways buses were parked on the side of highway whereas the travelers were out for snacks and some just prior to the landslide. It swept away the buses 800 meters down into a gorge and one bus fully buried.

One of them was traveling from Chamba to Manali and the other from Manali to Katra. Director General of Police Somesh Goyal also conveyed that eight travelers were travelling in the Manali-Katra bus whereas 47 passengers were in the other bus.
Police officials further added that, the distorted chassis of the bus bound for Katra in Jammu have been recovered. Rescue personnel’s finding it hard to recover the Manali-bound bus as it rolled down 800 metres down the road and got stuck under a huge mound of wreckage. Mandi Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam conveyed that, the death toll may rise.
