On Tuesday, Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Smriti Irani said that learning outcomes in schools have witnessed a dip of at least 30 per cent in India.
Smriti said that, "One of our biggest challenges has been… when you look at the learning outcomes of science and mathematics in our schools (classes 6 to 8)… learning outcomes have dipped to at least 30 per cent," Irani said at the fourth convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata, according to IANS.
HRD Minister Smriti Irani further added that, “the mission for knowledge, discovery and innovations should continue at all levels.”
"The worry is this… how do we get bright students into scientific institutions of calibre like IISERs, so that we see more scientific and research output in our country," the minister added.
Moreover, the common counselling for IISERs with Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will be hold by HRD Ministry from the next academic year.
