Landslide in Vaishnodevi shrine leaves 1 dead: 8 injured


An landslide triggered by rains on the way the cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Trikuta hills of Reasi area of Jammu and Kashmir left a lady dead and eight others harmed on Friday.

The landslide hit the foot track close Devi Dwar on Himkoti Marg on the way the cave shrine at around 12:15 PM, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Ajeet Sahu told media.

The expired lady has been identified as 32-year-old Soman, an inhabitant of Rewari area of Haryana, the authority stated, including the body is being moved to CHC Katra from Adhkuwari dispensary, where she was pronounced brought dead.

Sahu said eight people, including three kids, were harmed in the occurrence, including every one of them are being dealt with.

“The Himkoti track has been shut for travelers till clearance of “malba” (trash) and an evaluation to rule out any further slide,” the CEO said.

“Courses of action are being made by the Shrine Board for moving the body to the sufferer local place. Insurance claim of Rs 3 lakhs is being paid to next of kin of the expired,” he said.

More than 40,000 to 45,000 pilgrims visit the cave shrine daily.
