Kolkata: A massive fire broke out in an oil godown in Tangra in South Kolkata on Thursday afternoon. The fire claimed three lives and left several injured. The fire is yet to be brought under control and a few remain trapped inside the godown.
Among the three dead is the owner of the oil godown, Ram Avatar. The other is an employee of the same godown. Several others who suffered serious burn injuries have been rushed to the hospital.
As many as five tenders are trying to douse the fire and officials of the Disaster Management Group (DMG) are at the spot carrying out rescue operation for the people trapped inside.
The fire broke out around 1.30 pm in this oil godown and later spread to the other parts as several LPG cylinders present inside, burst into flames. Meanwhile, traffic has been diverted from the road connecting Tangra to Sealdah to enable smooth movement of fire tenders rushing to the spot.
