Kerala: Antique diamonds missing from Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple


Kerala: Nearly eight antique diamonds that Sree Padmanabhaswamy idol was wearing on his forehead were found missing today by the temple authorities.

The investigation has been started by the crime branch of Kerala Police, senior advocate Gopal Subramanium stated. As per the reports, the value of diamond was about Rs 21 lakh and its antiquity was higher than the actual value.

Few months back, the gold of worth Rs 189 was found missing from the temple by former comptroller and auditor general of India Vinod Rai.

Directed by the court to inspect the temple’s well-known resources, Rai stated 769 gold pots were reported lost.

Temple authorities who are devoted to Lord Padmanabhaswamy temple have been blamed for their carelessness. The complaint was filed by former police officer in Kerala high court in year 2009 for the negligence of the belongings by the previous royal family of Travancore.

A plea in the Supreme Court has directed that a separate body must be created to deal with the temple assets.

Seven years back, Rare jewels, gold coins, diamond-studded thrones, crowns and gold bars were recovered when all but one vault were opened.
