Kerala: In Kadakkal, a 90-year-old woman allegedly suffering from blood cancer was supposedly sexually assaulted in her house in Kollam. A 62-year-old man has been detained by the Kadakkal police on charges of sexual assault “next to the order of nature,” outraging the modesty of a woman, and criminal trespass. The fatality and the accused are neighbours.
District Superintendent of Police (Kollam Rural) S. Ajeetha Begum has also further conveyed that, the man has been detained on the basis of a case filed by the police subsequent to recording the statement of the woman. On Wednesday the case caught public notice following officials met the woman in her tarpaulin-roofed mud house on a rubber estate. The woman, who lived there alone, said that a person armed with a knife had trespassed into her house at night and raped her.
She has also further conveyed that, her complaint to the local panchayat associates had been to no avail. The occurrence is supposed to have taken place on Onam night. On Wednesday Ms. Begum conveyed women police officers called on the “victim” at her house and recorded her statement. The woman is accounted to have said the police that there was no rape but only sexual assault. The woman was subjected to forensic medical assessment at the local taluk hospital.
Doctors said the police that no offence of rape had been revealed. Inspector General Manoj Abraham conveyed there were several loose ends in the case. The police officials have also further conveyed that, the accused has no preceding criminal record. The woman was entangled in a protracted land dispute with him. The police are rebuilding the activities of the believe on the day of the crime.
They conveyed that they hoped an analysis of his mobile phone usage patterns would disclose his place at the time of the supposed offence. The State Human Rights Commission and the State Women’s Commission have opened independent inquiries into the occurrence.
The issue has assumed political overtones with Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala issuing a declaration condemning the administration for its “failure” to protect women. The LDF has supposed that the man taken into detention is a Congress activist. The arrival of Mahila Congress State president Bindu Krishna in the afternoon at the hospital led to tension in the area.
