Kashmir: Nearly two soldiers died and four others wounded on Saturday during the militant attack that took place in south Kashmir’s Qazigund area on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. As per the officials, the militants were hiding behind trees and later started gunfire at the army convoy and rushed from the area. The attack was held near Hillar village when the army convoy was going to Srinagar from Jammu.
Among six soldiers, two lost their lives at the Army Base Hospital in Srinagar. However, the Army and the Special Operations Group of J&K Police carried out investigation into the area. Following attack, National Highway was clogged for around half an hour.
The reports revealed that Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen was behind the attack.
Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia stated that two soldiers died in the attack. “Four injured soldiers are being treated at Army Base Hospital. The convoy was coming towards Srinagar when it was attacked,’’ he added.
The gunfire was carried out a day later when Army chief General Bipin Rawat made a discussion with Army commanders at the XV Corps headquarters.
J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti stated, “It is unfortunate that an unending cycle of violence has got unleashed in our society which only spreads miseries and desperation,” she asserted.
