NEW DELHI: A huge cordon and search operation was carried out by security forces in north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Tuesday after getting the information about existence of militants in the area.
“A joint search operation was launched by Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF personnel today after input about the presence of terrorists in the area,” a senior police official stated.
As per the reports, the internet services of Sopore area have been deferred.
Few days back, the militants had thrown away grenades on the 180 battalion of a CRPF camp that led to clashes at Tral in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. They even started gunfire at CRPF camp. Later, Indian army hit back on the terrorists. No casualty was reported during that day.
During the search operation, Jammu and Kashmir police has found four grenades and two magazines from Baba Demb area of Srinagar city.
The reports revealed that the violence between protesters and forces is currently on in the Seelu area. The security forces have started throwing tear smoke shells on protesters to take revenge from them, sources stated.
Sopore area was seized on Tuesday evening following the investigation in the area. Police sources stated on Wednesday morning that the gunfight in the area is still on by the militants.
